Mom's Blue Iris

48" x 24". Silk Painting.

Mom and Dad lived in Bowling Green, KY for many years and they always had a backyard full of flowers. Now I am not just talking about a few small beds, I am referring to the kind of yard that the local garden club would put on their list to tour. I had the opportunity to start many a garden from their transplants. This Blue Iris sprang from reference photos and my memories of many an early morning spent with a 5-gallon bucket and clippers. This silk painting started with white Habotai silk from Thailand, a light design was penciled in and then it was painted with French Dyes. The painted silk was then steam set for 2 hours and then mounted to canvas using an archival quality clear sealer.
